YouTube goes offline. For Music and Events…
November 16, 2008 |
YouTube’s goes offline with its most popular content creators — for an evening of musical acts, comedy sketches and screenings.
Dubbed YouTube Live, the one-night only showcase will feature performances by rapper Soulja Boy, Sarah Palin-spoofing vlogger LisaNova, masked martial artist Ask A Ninja and Discovery Channel’s MythBusters, among others.
The Google-owned company will host the event on Nov. 22 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.
For fans unable to make the trek to California, YouTube promises the entire two-hour event will stream live and in real time.
Since its launch, the popular video site has only supported pre-recorded content.
But with competitive video portals like Hulu experimenting with streaming broadcasts, some tech bloggers are speculating that the event is a stealthy way to test-drive new capabilities for the site and may even result in an announcement during the evenings festivities.
Anyways, YouTube said it intends to hold follow-up events to “YouTube Live,” but it gave no details on those plans. A concert in Tokya still seems to bet set up already as well…
This seems to be a first step to an interesting showcase for leading an internet brand into a modern crossmedia concept of presenting a brand online, on-air, on the ground and on-the-go. Keep your fingers crossed that Youtube makes it.
